Are Scented Candles Safe Around Cats and Dogs?

As pet owners ourselves, we understand how important it is to feel confident about the products you use in your home. Creating a warm, cozy atmosphere should never come with worry, especially when it comes to the wellbeing of your pets.

Like humans, cats and dogs can have individual sensitivities to certain scents and ingredients. Some essential oils, particularly in highly concentrated forms, may not be suitable for pets if inhaled excessively or ingested directly. These are :

-eucalyptus oil
-cinnamon
-ylang ylang
-pine
-peppermint
-citrus
-tea tree

However, the small fragrance levels used within properly made candles are generally considered safe when used responsibly in well ventilated spaces.

Nikura (essential and fragrance oil brand) have a fantastic blog post on essential oils and pets you can read here : Pets and essential oils.

At Vivente Home Fragrance, we carefully choose high quality fragrance oils and hand pour every candle using premium soy wax, which burns cleaner and produces significantly less soot than traditional paraffin wax candles. We believe in creating candles that feel gentle, balanced and comfortable within the home.

For extra peace of mind, we always recommend:

  • Burning candles in well ventilated rooms
  • Keeping candles out of reach of pets
  • Never leaving candles unattended
  • Monitoring your pet if they are particularly sensitive to strong scents

Some pet owners may choose to avoid heavily concentrated fragrances such as eucalyptus, tea tree, peppermint or strong citrus oils, particularly around smaller or sensitive animals.

At Vivente, our focus is always on thoughtful craftsmanship, quality ingredients and creating comforting home fragrance designed to be enjoyed safely as part of your everyday rituals.
